Ronell van Wyk, Contemporary Impressionist Painter in Provence

I’m a painter and photographer working from my studio in Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, in the heart of the Luberon, Provence.

My work is modern impressionism: I paint the light, colours and atmosphere of the Provençal landscape, from lavender fields, olive groves, village streets, the garden, as well as studio work like still lifes.

I work in oil and watercolour on canvas, board and paper, mostly outdoors, and from my studio set-ups and sketchbook. My atelier is in Saint-Saturnin-lès-Apt, a village in the Vaucluse near Apt, Roussillon and Gordes, where the olive trees, vineyards, poppy fields and lavender of Provence stretch right into my garden. My sketchbook is always on hand, and many a larger painting begins there before coming to life in the atelier. I hope you will feel the sun and beauty of Provence when you look at my work. Visits are welcome by appointment and  during Open Studio events, so please get in touch.

Alongside painting, I photograph the light of Provence. It feeds my work and my eye for colour and light.
